This UWC short course series emerges from Dr. Nandita Dinesh’s book Creative Writing and the Experiences of Others. Nandita is an alumna of UWC Mahindra College and has taught at the United World Colleges in India, Armenia, and USA.
Designed for participants 18 and older, each two-hour session will explore one unique strategy that participants can use to engage — ethically, responsibly, and humbly — with current events. Responses to other frequently asked questions can be found below.

Two-hour, online, synchronous sessions, once a week: Saturdays in May & June, 2 AM to 4 AM UTC
There are nine Saturdays in May and June. Since this is an eight session course, we will not meet on May 24.
Please make sure to check the time zone conversion! Early Saturday morning in UTC is Friday evening/night in some parts of the world.

In each two hour session we will explore one strategy that participants can use when writing about current events. Participants will engage in large group discussions, small group activities, and individual exercises.

Absolutely not! As long as you are willing to play, learn, and experiment, you are welcome.

The course will primarily be conducted in English. However, participants will be welcome to write in the language of their choice (and use online translators when it comes time to share their work).

Yes! Participants are expected to attend all eight sessions and participate in virtual, asynchronous discussions between each gathering.

The cost for each participant is USD 50, as a yearly subscription to Nandita’s Grey Zones Substack.

The content will be the same as that in the monthly Write the World workshops from January to July. What will be different are the pacing of the sessions and the required engagements that will take place on virtual forums between each gathering.
Limited number of scholarships are available for those who cannot pay the fee.
